New Immunization Requirement For Seventh Grade
Effective with the 2010-2011 school year, the Ohio Department of Health has implemented a new immunization requirement for all students entering 7th grade for a booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap), or tetanus and diphtheria (Td). This shot is intended to be a booster dose for students who completed the initial series of DTaP/DTP which was required for entry into Kindergarten. It has been found that immunity to pertussis (whooping cough) wanes during adolescence, making students susceptible to this disease. Some students may have already received this vaccine. Please review your student’s immunization records and/or call your physician to determine your student’s vaccine status. Written proof of the booster vaccine includes a copy of your student’s immunization record or a signed statement from your health care provider listing the Tdap or Td immunization and date is was administered.
